1:48 masks for the radar absorbent panels of the F-22 Raptor fighter, for I Love Kit kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-22 was the first production aircraft in which reduced radar reflectivity became the main design consideration right from the design of the fuselage. The canted edges, the sawtooth edges of the panels and the internal weapons bays form a whole in which every detail serves the same aim. The surface is covered with areas of different finish and in photographs it looks like an irregular mosaic of slightly darker and lighter fields, which moreover change with the wear of each individual aircraft.
Imitating such a structure by hand means cutting out dozens of irregular shapes and keeping them symmetrical. Pre-cut masks take that work off your hands, the layout of the fields matches reality and the model gains a depth that a uniform gray finish can never give.
Real aircraft also differ in the degree of wear, because the surface finish is restored only in patches after repairs and older fields fade. Anyone who wants to bring a model closer to a particular photograph can go lightly over some of the fields with heavily thinned paint once they are uncovered. It is precisely this small thing that tells a model built from the instructions apart from a model built from a photograph.
Only the films are part of the delivery, not a model of the aircraft or paints.
