A resin conversion set that turns a model of the fighter Lightning into its photo-reconnaissance guise designated F-5A. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for the kits of the P-38F and P-38G versions. The set contains resin parts, transparent windows for the camera bays cast in heat-cured clear resin, a decal sheet for two markings and pre-cut masks.
The twin-boom Lightning was an ideal carrier for cameras thanks to its long range and speed. Instead of armament in the nose it received a bay with several cameras, which meant a different shape for the whole nose section and a number of windows. The machines designated F-4 and F-5 were among the best reconnaissance aircraft of the war and flew unarmed, so they relied on speed and altitude. The F-5A version was based on the P-38G.
Cut the parts from the casting blocks with a fine saw and sand the cut face. Wash the resin with lukewarm water and detergent before painting to remove the remains of the mold release agent. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Mask the clear windows as soon as they are fitted; the masks to apply are part of the set. Reconnaissance machines were usually finished smooth and glossy for speed, so the surface deserves careful preparation.
The set is an accessory, not a complete model. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
