Reskit 1:48: boarding ladder for the F/A-18 Hornet (for Reskit sets only)

This is a detail accessory, not an aircraft kit. The contents are a resin, 3D printed extended boarding (access) ladder for the Hornet in 1:48 scale. On the real machine the ladder swings out from the left side of the forward fuselage and is used when the pilot climbs in and out, so on a model it immediately shows that the aircraft is parked rather than in the air.

An important note on compatibility: the manufacturer states that this ladder is intended solely for its own F/A-18 sets, that is, for the particular Reskit accessory sets it is shaped for. It is not offered as a universal part for any Hornet plastic kit. Before buying, check therefore that you are building with the matching Reskit set, or reckon on adjusting how it seats.

Use and fitting

• Separate the part from the print supports with a fine cutter or a saw; the thin steps and handrails are fragile.
• Before painting, wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water (mold release and print resin residue).
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), ideally the gel form, which gives you time to line it up.
• Sand wet and with respiratory protection; do not breathe in the resin dust.
• Spray a primer and then the color; ladders tend to be markedly scuffed, so chipping and a fine wash suggest themselves.
