Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier fighter Vought F4U Corsair in the version 4 form with cannon armament in 1:48 scale from Academy. The Corsair is unmistakable for its inverted gull wing, shaped like an inverted W, which came about because of the enormous diameter of the propeller.
The Corsair had the largest propeller that had appeared on a single-engined fighter at the time, and to make room for it the wing had to be cranked downward at the fuselage and upward farther out. That let the landing gear stay sensibly short. The F4U-4 version was the last wartime form, with a more powerful engine and a four-blade propeller, and the form with cannon instead of machine guns carried four 20 mm cannon in the wing. Corsairs served in the Pacific and again in Korea, where they were used mainly as attack aircraft.
Seat the cranked wing against a jig and check that both halves have the same crank angle; asymmetry is conspicuous with this shape. Finish and paint the cockpit interior before you close up the fuselage. The dark blue US Navy finish will take only a very fine wash; a rich blue is better mixed from a darker and a lighter layer. Paint flaking off the leading edges and at the wing root is typical of carrier machines and can be imitated with a sponge. Fit the underwing stores at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
