1:48 F6F-3 Hellcat cowling late - opened flaps is a resin engine cowling in the late form with the cowl flaps open.
Responsibility details are not available.
A resin replacement for the engine cowling on a model of the American Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat carrier fighter in 1:48 scale. The casting shows the late form of the cowling and has the cowl flaps rendered in the open position, that is, the way the machine looks with a hot engine on the ground. On a plastic part the flaps are usually molded shut and cannot be opened, so this configuration cannot otherwise be built. It is not a model of the aircraft.
The F6F Hellcat was an American carrier fighter built around the powerful air-cooled eighteen-cylinder twin-row R-2800 Double Wasp radial. It was created as an answer to Japanese superiority in the first months of the war in the Pacific and became the most successful carrier fighter of the US Navy. The cowl flaps around the rim of the engine cowling opened during running on the ground and in the climb, when the engine needed the greatest airflow.
Wash the resin casting in lukewarm soapy water because of the mold release agent. Cut the casting block off with a saw and level the face with abrasive paper, protecting your breathing. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a primer before painting. Paint the inside of the cowling differently from the outside and put a dark wash into the space behind the flaps so that the opening reads as deep.
This is an accessory, not a complete model. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted.
