The package includes two complete machine guns Spandau LMG 08/15 in the long charging handle variant, assembled from a combination of metal (brass) and 3D-printed resin parts. The set is designed for kits of German First World War aircraft in 1:48 scale.

The Real Subject

The aircraft machine gun LMG 08/15, known among modelers and airmen alike as the Spandau, was the standard fixed onboard weapon of German First World War fighters. It fired synchronized through the propeller arc, and in a paired arrangement on the engine cowling it became a typical identifying feature of German fighter aircraft of the period. The perforated barrel cooling jacket and open mechanism of the weapon are clearly visible on a model — and that's exactly what a kit's plastic part can only render in simplified form.

Use and fitting

• The set replaces the plastic machine guns from the kit — this isn't just a barrel, but the whole weapon.
• Glue the metal and resin parts with cyanoacrylate (super glue); metal joints can also be soldered.
• Wash the resin parts before gluing and cut off the casting blocks; sand with respiratory protection.
• Degrease both metal and resin before painting and spray with a primer — otherwise the paint won't hold.
• Fit the machine guns only at the end of the build, after painting the fuselage, so the fine parts aren't damaged.
