Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB — cannons with uncovered barrels, early type (1:48, Master)

A detail accessory in turned metal, not a model of the aircraft. The set contains four Hispano cannon barrels for the wings of the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB in the early type build with uncovered barrels. It replaces the corresponding plastic parts in Typhoon kits in 1:48 scale. It combines finely turned metal with small photo-etched rings, so that both the muzzle and the body of the weapon look far more realistic than molded plastic. It is made by the Polish manufacturer Master, a specialist in turned metal barrels and probes.

Use and fitting

• The set is universal — it suits Typhoon Mk.IB kits in 1:48 scale from various manufacturers.
• Cut off the plastic barrel and drill a hole in the remaining part for the new metal pin.
• Glue the metal and photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate; cement for plastic does not hold on metal.
• Degrease the parts before gluing so that both paint and glue hold well.

Painting tips

Treat the metal with a primer first, or the paint will adhere poorly. Bring the barrels up with a dark wash and gentle drybrushing of the edges; leave the muzzles dark in metal. Fit the parts at the very end of the build so that they are not damaged during further handling.
