Painting masks for spraying the markings on a model of the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB fighter-bomber in 1:48 scale. The markings are sprayed on with paint instead of being applied as decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
A sprayed marking is part of the paintwork, has no clear carrier film underneath it and behaves on a gloss or a matte surface exactly like the paint around it. That removes the risk that the edge of a decal will shine once dry or that the film will wrinkle over engraved detail. The masks are worked out for the model of the Hawker Typhoon Mk.IB in 1:48 scale.
The Hawker Typhoon was a British single-seat fighter that proved itself mainly against ground targets: it attacked vehicles, trains and enemy positions and was one of the mainstays of ground support at the end of the Second World War. The Mk.IB configuration accounted for the vast majority of the aircraft built. The machines carried conspicuous Allied markings, so on a model this is an element that does not get lost on the surface and largely decides the final impression.
The masks are applied to a finished and fully cured base coat, that is, always before the marking itself is sprayed. The surface must be clean and free of grease, and the edges of the mask need to be pressed down firmly so that paint does not creep underneath. Spray in several thin passes, otherwise a ridge will form along the edge. Multicolor markings are built up in layers, from the lighter shade to the darker one. Remove the mask while the paint is not yet fully cured, and pull it away at a shallow angle across the surface rather than straight up. Wipe any adhesive residue off the edge with a cotton swab moistened in a suitable product.
The aircraft model, paints and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
