An injection-molded plastic model of the German Horten Ho 229B jet flying wing in the night fighter version (Nachtjäger) in 1:48 scale from Dragon. The subject is a projected two-seat development of the Horten flying wing concept — the model therefore captures the intended shape of the machine rather than a production aircraft. The kit offers the characteristic shape of the tailless wing and the jet engines buried in the structure.
The Horten Ho 229 (also known as the Horten IX) was a German tailless jet aircraft from the end of the Second World War, one of the first attempts at a jet flying wing. The Ho 229B version was designed as a two-seat night fighter with radar and heavier armament for intercepting Allied bombers in the dark. This variant was never completed or put into service and remained at the project stage.
Assemble and paint the cockpit and the landing gear bays before you close the wing. Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic; the large surfaces of the flying wing need careful sanding and filling of the seams so that the smooth finish comes out. Apply a primer before painting and spray the paints with an airbrush in thin coats. Darker camouflage schemes suit a night fighter; treat the colors and the markings as a plausible period speculation about a project machine.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
