Mark 77 Mod. 2 incendiary bombs in 1:48 scale from Reskit: two printed resin stores for American combat aircraft. An accessory for a model, not a kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set contains two Mark 77 incendiary bombs in the Mod. 2 version, made by 3D printing in resin. Thanks to the printing, the shape of the thin-walled body and the detail of the suspension lugs are crisper than anything that can be achieved by injecting plastic into a mold. These are separate stores that are hung under the wing or the fuselage of a model already built, not a kit of an aircraft.
The Mark 77 is an American incendiary bomb with a thin-walled body filled with a thickened fuel mixture. It has no stabilizing fins of the kind a conventional bomb carries, so after release it falls on a flat trajectory and spreads its burning filling over an area. It was carried by attack and combat aircraft of the US Navy, the Marine Corps and the US Air Force, among them the A-4, A-26K, F-4, AV-8B and F/A-18. Those are exactly where the set comes into its own.
Cut the parts off the supports with a sharp scalpel or a fine saw and level the surfaces with a file, doing the sanding with your airways protected. They are glued with cyanoacrylate. Fit the bombs onto the pylons only after the fuselage has been painted, otherwise masking the surroundings is awkward. The metal surface of the body comes out well if, after the base coat, you let a dark wash flow into the seams and go lightly over the edges with a dry brush.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
