The MHU-141M airfield trailer with a cargo bed in 1:48 scale. A resin model to complete the apron beside an aircraft model in that scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
1:48 is the most popular scale among aircraft builders and at the same time the one where the empty space around a model is noticed most often. The finished aircraft stands on its base alone, with nothing to suggest that work is going on around it. The MHU-141M trailer with a flat bed fills that gap with a single piece: it is big enough to be noticed at first glance and small enough not to overpower the model. In service a trailer like this moves material between the hangar and the apron and can be seen in practically every photograph from an airfield.
The model is cast in resin and consists of a frame, wheels, a drawbar and the flat bed. The surface carries a fine texture of sheet metal and welds, which come out well after spraying and a wash to pick them out. The running gear is arranged so that the trailer stands firmly, with no need for anything underneath.
In this scale the parts are still easy to handle, so the build is one of the friendlier ones. Tweezers and a sharp knife are enough; a magnifier is not needed. It is still resin, though: the parts are sanded, washed and glued with cyanoacrylate glue. If you are only gathering your first experience and want the base filled quickly, a ready-made plastic airfield equipment set will serve you better. A resin trailer makes sense when what you are after in the scene is the crisp edges and fine detail that injection-molded plastic cannot deliver at this size. The reward is an object that tells a story by itself: an empty bed means something has just been unloaded, and the viewer understands it without a single caption.
