1:48 MiG-21 PF, PFM, SMT, R, MF (Fishbed D, F, J) - turned metal air intake ring is a metal accessory for models of the MiG-21 versions listed, in 1:48 scale. It is not a kit.

The ring replaces the leading lip of the nose air intake and is intended for kits of the PF, PFM, SMT, R and MF versions, that is machines with the reporting names Fishbed D, F and J, in the version from Eduard. The versions of the MiG-21 differ from one another in the air intake, which is why the manufacturer supplies separate rings for the individual groups of versions. So check which version you are actually building before buying, otherwise the diameter will not match.
The mouth of the air intake is the largest circular area you see on the model from the front, and that is why every inaccuracy shows on it. The plastic version is created by joining two halves, so it has a seam, and while cleaning it the edge rounds off. What is more, after sanding a circle rarely stays a circle, and the slight ovality is then visible even under paint. A turned part comes ready, concentric and with a thin edge. Besides its looks it also has a practical advantage, because the front of the model takes more touches without the edge being dented.
First try out how much plastic has to be taken off the lip. Remove it in small steps and keep checking whether the ring seats all the way around. Before gluing it is sensible to have the inside of the duct finished, including the cone, because once the ring is on you will not get inside. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, and any excess should be drawn off at once, before it hardens. Degrease the metal before painting and use a primer for metal, as paint will not take on a bare surface. To unify the metal with the surrounding plastic it is enough to spray the whole mouth in the same shade at the end.
This is an accessory for a model. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package.
