Mk.83 bombs with the MAU-91 tail unit in a thermally protected version, 1:48 scale will add American carried ordnance in one particular service form to the stores of a combat aircraft model under construction.
Responsibility details are not available.
This accessory set from the Reskit brand extends the armament of a combat aircraft model under construction with Mk.83 bombs in one particular service configuration. The figure of four pieces is given by the name of the item. The package covers the underwing load exclusively; the machine itself is built by the modeler from a kit of his own.
The Mk.83 stands in the middle of the American Mk 80 series: it is heavier than the five-hundred-pound Mk.82 and lighter than the two-ton Mk.84. Nominally it belongs to the one thousand pound class, that is roughly 450 kilograms. It has a slender aerodynamic body of low drag, a pair of suspension lugs on the upper side and an interchangeable tail, which decides how the bomb behaves after release. That is exactly why the same body is sold in several versions.
MAU-91 is the designation of a particular tail stabilizing unit that can be fitted to the body. The qualifier thermally protected then refers to a protective surface layer that slows the heating of the filling in a fire nearby. On a model this layer shows up as a rougher and less glossy surface than the unprotected version has. The difference is apparent even in a photograph of a display case.
Degrease the parts before painting and let them dry thoroughly. The pattern of the lettering and the bands on the casing stands out once a smooth ground has been sprayed on and the sheen knocked back at the end.
