A self-adhesive masking set with pre-cut shapes, drawn for the Tamiya kit in 1:48 scale. The Shiden was a Japanese single-engine fighter of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service, and its cockpit has broken-up framing on which hand-cut tape bends and breaks.
The set contains masks for the outer and the inner side of the glazing. You can thus spray the frames from inside in the cockpit shade and from outside in the covering color, without the two colors meeting at the edge. The pre-cut shapes sit on the frame first time, so the most unpleasant part of the work is done away with: cutting curves with a scalpel directly on the part.
Wash the glazing in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry; on a greasy surface the mask does not hold. Lift the shapes with tweezers and press them down with a blunt toothpick all around the perimeter so that no paint runs under the edge. Spray in thin coats. Take the mask off as soon as the paint is freshly dry and pull it at an angle across the edge of the frame. If any adhesive mark is left, wipe it off with a cotton bud dampened in spirit; never use an aggressive thinner on a clear part.
The box holds a masking set. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included, unless stated otherwise.
