Compared with the premium editions the Weekend edition is simplified - usually without photo-etched parts and masks - and is aimed at a faster and more straightforward build. The P-51 Mustang was an American fighter of the Second World War which, in the versions with the British Rolls-Royce Merlin engine (built under license in the USA as the Packard), turned into an outstanding long-range escort fighter. The P-51B version still had the original fuselage with the low rear decking and a framed canopy, which restricted the view to the rear. The answer was the British bulged sliding Malcolm hood, which markedly improved the pilot's view to the sides and to the rear; it was fitted to some of the P-51B and P-51C aircraft with units in Europe. With its long range the Mustang escorted bombers deep over enemy territory.
Separate the parts from the sprues with a knife and clean up the surfaces carefully. Glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic and apply a primer before painting. A number of Mustangs flew in bare metal finish - for a faithful glossy metal look, a special metalizer sprayed with an airbrush over a smoothly sanded base works well. Mask and glue the clear Malcolm hood carefully so that it stays clear; bring out the panel lines with a thin wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
