Turned metal armament and gunsight parts for a P-51B Mustang model in 1:48 scale replace the plastic parts of the wing armament and the gunsight with accurate metal components. It is an accessory to a build, not an aircraft model.
Responsibility details are not available.
A set of turned metal parts from Master, intended for detailing a model of the P-51B fighter in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft kit. According to the name these are armament and gunsight parts that replace the corresponding plastic components. The name gives the target kit: the P-51B from Eduard.
The armament and the gunsight are two places where detail cannot be hidden. The machine gun muzzles project from the leading edge and, seen head on, are the first thing a viewer examines on a model; molded plastic has the muzzles blanked off and drilling them has to be accurate to a tenth of a millimeter, or the row looks out of line. The gunsight, in turn, is a small part on the line of sight into the cockpit, where plastic looks soft and blurred. Turned metal parts solve both with an accurate shape and a ready-made bore, and they go well with the photo-etched sets that are usually added to the cockpit.
The P-51B Mustang was an American single-engine fighter of the Second World War in the version with a British V12 engine, which fundamentally improved its performance at high altitude. The wing carried machine guns of 12.7 mm caliber, and thanks to its long range the aircraft came into its own above all as an escort fighter. The early version still had a framed cockpit canopy, which changed on later machines.
The metal parts are fitted into enlarged holes and secured with a small drop of gel cyanoacrylate glue. With the wing armament it pays to try all the parts dry first and check them from exactly head on, so that the muzzles form a regular row. Metal is degreased with alcohol before painting and gone over with a primer intended for metal. The muzzles are usually better left without a covering color, just burnished and chemically darkened. The gunsight is fitted once the cockpit is finished and before the canopy is closed; the armament, by contrast, belongs at the very end of the build, so that it is not damaged during masking and finishing.
This is an accessory to building a model, not a kit in its own right. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
