It is a multi-role machine from the extensive Mi-8 and Mi-17 family, which is among the most widespread helicopters in the world. The model is made up of injection-molded plastic parts; the exact contents of the package depend on the particular release.
The Mi-8MTV5 is the modernized transport and assault version of the Mi-8 and Mi-17 family. It is powered by two Klimov TV3-117 turboshaft engines driving a five-blade main rotor. The version is characterized by a redesigned nose with prominent glazing and, on some machines, also a rear cargo ramp that makes rapid loading and unloading easier. The machine serves for carrying troops and cargo, for evacuating the wounded and for combat support; under short stub wings it carries pylons for unguided rockets, bombs or pods. It is used by the Russian armed forces and by a number of users abroad.
Glue the parts with thin modeling cement for plastic and test the joints of the fuselage and the engine nacelles dry beforehand. Apply a primer before painting; it unifies the surface and shows up any shortcomings in the joints. An airbrush is ideal; it pays to mask the extensive glazing of the cabin and the cockpit and to paint it only after assembly. Russian machines tend to be in gray and green or desert camouflage, and at the end a fine water-based wash to bring out the panel lines and rivets is recommended.
