An injection-molded plastic kit of the British fighter Supermarine Spitfire in the Mk.IXc version, in the early rendering, in 1:48 scale from Eduard. Eduard offers this subject in several editions (among them the richer ProfiPACK with photo-etch and masks and the simpler Weekend); check the particular edition against the manufacturer part number on the box. The kit is known for a high level of detail and for the variability of the parts.
The Spitfire Mk.IX was created as a rapid response to the German fighter Focke-Wulf Fw 190; a powerful two-stage supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin engine was fitted into the proven Spitfire airframe. The early rendering corresponds to the first series of the Mk.IX. The c designation means the universal wing with armament of two 20 mm cannon and machine guns. The Mk.IX became one of the most widespread and most successful renderings of the Spitfire.
Assemble and paint the richly broken-up cockpit before closing the fuselage. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and glue the joints with thin cement for plastic. Treat the surfaces with a primer, apply the British camouflage with an airbrush and bring out the panel lines with a wash. If photo-etch and masks are part of the edition, use the masks for clean framing of the canopy.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
