Kitty Hawk 80146 Su-22 M3 and M4 is a 1:48 plastic kit of the export version of the Soviet fighter-bomber with a variable-geometry wing.

An injection-molded plastic kit of a single-seat fighter-bomber with variable geometry of the outer wing panels, in the export form designated Su-22. The airframe is identical with the Soviet Su-17 family, and what differs is the make-up of the equipment and the armament. Both the M3 and the M4 version can be built out of the box. A photo-etched fret and a well worked-out cockpit are included. Builders who want the Soviet machines will find a separate release from the manufacturer carrying the domestic designation.
The export Su-22 was supplied to countries of the Warsaw Pact and beyond it, and in many of them it stayed in service considerably longer than in the Soviet Union. In design it was the same aircraft: a fuselage inherited from the Su-7, only the outer wing panels pivoting, and a turbojet with an afterburner. The difference lay in the equipment, which on export machines was simplified, and in the range of armament, which tended to be narrower. The type was used for attacks on ground targets and for reconnaissance, and in a number of countries it was among the most capable combat aircraft of all.
Decide in advance whether you are building the M3 or the M4, because the parts on the spine and the make-up of the armament differ. Finish and paint the cockpit before you join the fuselage halves. Glue the pivoting wingtips on only once the base color has dried, so that the joint does not get flooded. The camouflage patterns of export machines tend to have sharp edges, so reach for masking putty or for cut stencils.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
