1:48 Tentpaks and bedrolls

What the set offers

Rolled shelter quarters and a rolled bedroll in 1:48 scale, that is a small load that reveals on a model that somebody uses the machine. Without it even a carefully built vehicle looks like a display exhibit; a few pieces tied on in the right place are all it takes and the whole model gains a story. The scope of the box and the number of pieces are described by the manufacturer.

Where the load belongs

A crew stows its things where they do not get in the way and where they can reach them: on the fenders, at the rear, on the bed, in the free corners between the tools. Two principles are worth keeping to. The load must not cover anything that had to be worked, and it must not hang in the air, so every piece has to seat somewhere and be tied somewhere. Straps and ropes can be suggested with a strip of thin foil or with thread; the knots do not have to be visible, it is enough if the canvas is slightly pressed in where it is fastened.

Building and painting tips

Cut the surplus material and the marks from production away with a sharp blade a little from the part and sand the rest down. Before painting, wash the pieces, degrease them and apply a primer. Canvas looks best when each piece gets a slightly different shade, because equipment never comes from a single delivery. After the base color comes a thin wash, which brings out the folds, and a dry brush in a lighter tone over the edges of the rolls. Dust the underside with pigment so that the load fits in with the rest of the model.

Who it is for

For modelers who build hardware and dioramas in 1:48 scale and want to give a model a lived-in look. The model, figures, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
