Injection-molded plastic model of the American fighter North American P-51B Mustang in the Blue Nose finish in 1:48 scale from Academy. The edition offers a good mold with an engraved surface, a detailed cockpit, clear parts for the canopy and decals for machines with the striking blue nose.
The P-51B was the version of the Mustang powered by the Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine (built under license in the United States as the Packard V-1650). It was the Merlin that gave the Mustang its excellent high-altitude performance and the long range that let it escort bombers deep over Germany. The Blue Nose nickname refers to the blue-painted noses of the machines of the 352nd Fighter Group at Bodney in England, known as the Blue-Nosed Bastards of Bodney. The B version has the framed razorback canopy.
Glue the parts with thin modeling cement for plastic, and fill and sand the fuselage joints. It pays to paint the cockpit before closing it up. For a natural metal finish use a good smooth base and metallic paints or foil; mask the blue nose accurately, because it is the eye-catching element of the finish. Apply the paints with an airbrush in thin coats.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
