Flyhawk FH1122 HMS Hermes 1942 is a plastic kit of a British aircraft carrier in 1:700 scale, with photo-etched parts and eight carrier aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a British aircraft carrier in her 1942 state. The manufacturer is known for the fineness of the molds and for thin-walled parts, which in 1:700 allow detail that used to have to be added with photo-etched parts. The box includes a photo-etched fret and eight carrier biplanes, so the ship can be built with her deck occupied as well.
Hermes was the first ship in the world designed from the keel up as a carrier rather than converted from another hull. She was small, carried only a limited air group and by the nineteen thirties no longer matched the dimensions of the new aircraft, yet she served through the whole interwar period and the beginning of the war. Her end came in April 1942 off Ceylon, where she was sunk by aircraft from Japanese carriers during the raid into the Indian Ocean. She thus became one of the first large ships lost to a purely aerial attack on the open sea.
In 1:700 the order decides everything: first finish the hull and the deck, and only then fit the superstructure and the photo-etched parts. Glue the railings with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) in short stretches so that they do not twist. Spray the deck and the hull separately before you join them; masking the edge of the deck once it is glued on is needless work. Leave the aircraft until the very end and glue them on only when the deck is finished and dry.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
