The 1:700 scale is the most widespread for ships, because even large vessels stay manageable in a display case and there is a wide choice of photo-etched accessories for them.
The Type 055 is the largest surface combatant built in China in the last decade. The PLA Navy carries it as a destroyer, while a number of foreign surveys place it closer to the cruiser class because of its displacement and the number of vertical launch cells. The silhouette is marked out by an enclosed bow with a compact superstructure, an integrated mast with recessed antennas and flat radar panels on the sides of the superstructure, that is features reducing radar reflectivity. The lead ship of the class entered service in 2020.
With ships in 1:700 scale, decide right at the start whether you will build the model with a full hull or only to the waterline for setting into a sea; the preparation of the base differs accordingly. Paint the deck and the superstructure separately and glue them on only after the base coat, otherwise you will not reach the surfaces. Fine elements such as railings, radars or walkways gain a great deal from being replaced with photo-etched parts, which are sold separately. Start the painting with a primer, then lay the base gray down and break the surfaces up with a light brightening of the centers of the panels. A wash brings out the detail of the superstructure, and discreet rust and water run-off marks add believability, but on modern vessels do not overdo the patina. Glue the flags and small markings on at the end.
