The designation FPU-8/A belongs to a drop fuel tank carried by the older-generation Hornet family, that is the versions designated by the letters A to D. The aircraft model itself is not included in the box.
Photographs from carrier decks and from land bases show Hornets practically always with at least one tank under the wing. A modeler who leaves the pylons empty therefore unintentionally captures a configuration that hardly ever occurs in service. Auxiliary tanks also help to balance the silhouette of the wing visually, as it looks too clean without any stores.
The Hornet was created as a multirole carrier aircraft able to carry out fighter and attack tasks on a single sortie. That is exactly why tanks were combined with armament according to the particular task, so two aircraft from the same squadron looked different every time. For the build that means pleasant freedom: you can put the stores together according to the photograph you want to capture.
