A set of masks for spraying the special scheme of the Swedish AJ-37 Viggen attack aircraft, cut for the Special Hobby kit in 1:72.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Saab 37 was a bold machine for its day: canards ahead of a delta wing, a powerful engine with a thrust reverser and the ability to land on a paved stretch of ordinary road. Sweden built a whole system of dispersed defense around it, in which the aircraft were serviced from forest bases away from conventional airfields. The AJ-37 attack version entered service at the start of the 1970s, and at the end of their careers some airframes received a striking commemorative scheme.
Large areas of color look noticeably better sprayed than printed on film. The glossy film around the motif disappears, the transitions sit into the surface and there is no risk of a decal wrinkling over riveted detail. The set divides the motif into individual steps, so the shades are laid one over another in sequence.
Work on a perfectly dried base coat, otherwise it will tear away as you peel the mask off. Take the airbrush lightly and at right angles to the surface so that the paint cannot creep under the edge. Keep to the order of shades, from light to dark. Let the previous coat rest for at least an hour before applying the next mask.
Before you start on the fuselage, try the whole procedure out on an offcut of sprue. You will find out how the paint you have chosen covers and how it behaves as the mask comes off, and any unpleasantness will show up on a piece of scrap instead of on the finished surface of the model.
The contents are masking material only, and the kit itself has to be obtained separately.
