The set contains the American AN/AVQ-26A PAVE Tack targeting and guidance pod together with the pylon for the F-4 Phantom II. It is a resin, 3D-printed accessory for experienced modelers; it is not an airplane model and not a Phantom kit but external equipment with which you complete a finished plastic model. 3D printing comes into its own here: the pod has a broken-up surface, a rotating head with sensor windows and fine mounting detail that injection-molded plastic can only suggest.
PAVE Tack was an electro-optical pod combining an infrared system for night vision with a laser rangefinder and designator. It allowed a crew to find and accurately mark a ground target and guide laser-guided munitions onto it, even at night. It marked a fundamental shift from mere visual bombing to precision strike and became one of the things that kept the Phantom in the front line at a time when its airframe was no longer the most modern.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water. Cut the print supports off with a sharp cutter or a fine saw, sand the area and glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue), as plastic cement will not bond resin. Do the sanding with respiratory protection, preferably wet. Lay down a primer before painting; it is a good idea to mask the sensor windows.
