Metal armament for the A6M5c Zero, 1:72

A set of turned metal armament barrels for a model of the Japanese Zero carrier fighter in the A6M5c version, in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but a set of replacement parts. Compared with the earlier machines the A6M5c version had markedly heavier armament, so there are more barrels projecting from the wing and they are more visible. The metal parts have drilled muzzles, an accurate round section and no parting line.

• Replacing the plastic barrels of the wing armament on an A6M5c model.
• Achieving the thin, straight section that plastic cannot hold in this scale.

Building and painting tips

Drill the holes in the wing out to the diameter of the shank so that the barrels sit square and parallel. It is the parallelism that shows most when seen from the front, so look the assembly over before the glue sets. It is glued with super glue. Degrease the parts before painting and apply a primer. Fit the barrels at the very end of the build, when the model is no longer handled much.
