An injection-molded plastic kit of the British naval helicopter AW101 Merlin HM.1 in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The model faithfully captures a rugged three-engine machine with a five-blade main rotor. The box includes clear parts for the cabin glazing and a decal sheet with several Royal Navy marking options.
The AW101 Merlin is a large multi-role helicopter of European design; the HM.1 version serves with the Royal Navy above all for anti-submarine warfare and for patrol over the sea. It is powered by three turboshaft engines, which give it high load capacity, range and safety over water. The cabin takes bulky equipment for naval tasks and the machine is one of the mainstays of both shipborne and shore-based aviation.
Assemble the five-blade rotor and the landing gear carefully so that the angles sit right. Glue the extensive cabin glazing with cement for clear parts and mask it before spraying. Use liquid modeling cement on the plastic, lay a primer before painting and spray with an airbrush. The dark gray naval finish comes alive with a light emphasis on the panels; apply the decals onto a smooth gloss coat and seal them with a flat overcoat so that the markings look natural.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
