The plastic kit 1:72 Bristol Superfreighter from Airfix captures the British freight aircraft with nose doors that became famous as a flying ferry for cars.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of a British transport aircraft in the most common aviation scale. The model has an angular high-wing silhouette, fixed landing gear and extensive glazing of the flight deck, shapes that build pleasantly and come out well in the color scheme of a civil operator.
The Bristol Type 170 was created shortly after the Second World War as an undemanding freight aircraft with large doors in the nose. The version called Superfreighter received a lengthened nose and an enlarged vertical tail, which raised the useful capacity. The best-known chapter of its life was carrying cars along with their passengers across the Channel between England and France: the car drove in through the front doors, the people sat down at the rear and the flight took a few tens of minutes. The aircraft also served in Canada, New Zealand and Australia, where it proved itself on short and unpaved strips.
Dry-fit the large flat fuselage parts before gluing and, if needed, strengthen the joints with a strip of plastic on the inside. Mask the glazing and paint it together with the fuselage, because the glazed area makes up a substantial part of the front end. Fit the fixed landing gear only after the underside has been painted. The color schemes of civil operators depend on a smooth gloss surface, so it pays to polish the area with a fine sponge before the decals go on.
The kit is sold unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and putty have to be obtained separately.
