Replacement tail surfaces in 1:72 scale for a model of the EC-121 Warning Star early warning aircraft. An accessory to a kit, not a model in its own right.
Responsibility details are not available.
The EC-121 Warning Star was an American early warning aircraft derived from the Lockheed Super Constellation airliner. Above the fuselage and beneath it, it carried bulky housings for radar antennas, thanks to which it could patrol over the sea for long hours and fill out the ground radar network where it did not reach. The unmistakable marks of the whole Constellation family are the three vertical tail surfaces and the slender, S-curved fuselage.
The set replaces the tail surfaces of a model of the EC-121 in 1:72 scale with separate parts with sharper shaping and a finer surface than a large injection mold allows. How many parts the package holds, how they are divided and how much material has to be removed from the kit for the replacement to seat is given in the manufacturer's instructions.
Cut the surplus material off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the rest down with fine abrasive paper. First try the fit dry: with a triple tail it is decisive that all three fins stand vertical and parallel, as otherwise a deviation is visible on the finished model from every angle. Secure the joints with super glue and let them harden without load. Wash and degrease the parts before painting.
The set is intended for builders for whom the shape of the parts from the kit is not enough and who do not mind reworking the mating surfaces. The model itself, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
