An accessory by the Polish brand MASTER that replaces the plastic air data tube on a model of the American supersonic bomber Convair B-58 Hustler in 1:72 scale. The package contains the metal part alone, not a model and no other accessories.
The B-58 has a markedly extended and slender nose ending in a long air data tube. In injected plastic that means a part at the very limit of what can be molded: it tends to be bent, it has a parting line along its whole length and it often snaps while being removed from the runner, before it even reaches the model. Turned metal sidesteps that problem entirely. The part is straight, concentric, with sharp transitions of diameter and a real opening in the front. At the same time it is stiff enough to survive ordinary handling of the model.
Cut the plastic original off and level the seating face so that it is perpendicular to the axis of the fuselage. Drill the hole for the pin, starting with the smallest bit and increasing the diameter gradually, otherwise the bit will wander in the plastic and the tube will point off to one side. Glue with cyanoacrylate or with an epoxy that gives time to align it. Check the axis from above and from the front. If you paint it, degrease the metal with alcohol and apply a primer for metal, otherwise the paint will chip at the first contact. On this type, bare metal simply polished and slightly darkened by blackening looks good too. Fit the tube right at the end and never pick a finished model up by its nose. When dusting, run the brush from the fuselage toward the tip, not against it.
