European Iron Gates (Pattern 3) 1:72 (Voyager Model)

An add-on photo-etched set of thin brass, not a standalone model. It holds the parts of a decorative wrought entrance gate in the European style in 1:72 scale. It serves to finish off dioramas, vignettes and display bases, to which it adds a fine architectural feature with a view through it.

What it is for

Wrought gates closed off the entrances to yards, factories, barracks and town houses, and in a diorama they work both as a striking focal point and as a natural frame for the scene. The photo-etched version captures the thin bars and the ornament, which in plastic would come out coarse.

Fitting tips

Separate the parts from the fret carefully, and take any bends over a bending tool. The leaves of the gate can be fitted half open, which brings the composition to life. Glue with cyanoacrylate, degrease before painting, build the base with a dark primer and finish the surface with rust, worn edges and pigments.
