1:72 F-14A Tomcat is a plastic kit of the carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing in 1:72 scale from Hobby Boss.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit captures the first production version of the Grumman F-14 Tomcat carrier fighter. The variable-geometry wing makes this aircraft one of the most striking subjects there is, and in 1:72 scale it makes a model that fits a display case comfortably. The manufacturer is Hobby Boss.
The Tomcat was designed as a two-seat carrier fighter for the defense of a carrier battle group. The crew was a pilot and a weapons systems officer, sitting in tandem under a common canopy. The two afterburning turbojets are set well apart, with a flat lifting tunnel between them, and the tail carries horizontal tailplanes and two vertical fins. The wing changes its sweep with airspeed, so the aircraft handles both a slow approach to the deck and high supersonic speeds. The F-14A version was the first production form, which entered service in the mid-1970s and was the only one of the family to reach a foreign operator.
Finish the two-man cockpit before you close the fuselage, and before you glue the wings decide whether you want them swept back or spread. Fill and sand the seams between the air intakes and the fuselage, because they are clearly visible. Spray the gray naval schemes with an airbrush with soft transitions and let them come through with a patina of accented panel lines. Paint the external stores and missiles separately and fit them at the very end so that they do not break off.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
