The real subject

The F-4 Phantom II is an American two-seat supersonic fighter and attack aircraft, which served with the US Navy, the US Marine Corps and the US Air Force and in many other countries. The carrier version had folding outer sections of the wings, so that the machine would fit onto the elevator of an aircraft carrier and into the hangar below the flight deck. Folded wings are a sight typical of the Phantom, and on a model they immediately give away a machine parked on deck.

What the accessory solves

The set makes it possible to build a model with the outer sections of the wings folded, that is, in a position into which a kit wing will not bend by itself. According to the title it relates to the F-4B, F-4C, F-4D, early F-4E and F-4J versions in 1:72 scale. Which kit number the set belongs to and what exactly the package holds should be checked against the manufacturer's information on the packaging and in the instructions.

Building tips

Before you reach for a saw, dry-fit the parts against the kit and lightly mark in pencil where the wing is to pass into the folding section; the place of division and the procedure are given in the manufacturer's instructions. Cut a little away from the line and sand the rest down, so that a flat mating surface is left. The parts are not of polystyrene, and cement for plastic models will not join them; use cyanoacrylate or two-part glue and degrease the surfaces before joining. A folded wing tends to be heavy, so reinforce the joint with a short pin of wire. Before painting, wash the whole in lukewarm water with detergent and let it dry.
