An injection-molded plastic kit of the American Grumman F8F Bearcat carrier fighter in the F8F-1B version in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Hobby Boss. The -1B version differed from the basic one in its armament of four 20 mm cannons instead of machine guns. The model is laid out as a clear and quick build; the box holds plastic parts, decals and instructions.
The Bearcat was the last piston-engined carrier fighter from Grumman. It combined the mighty Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Double Wasp radial engine with the smallest and lightest possible airframe, which gave it outstanding climb and agility. It did not make it into the fighting of the Second World War, but it became a sought-after machine and later a legend of air racing.
The model has a simplified parts breakdown, so it also suits a quick build. Use thin cement for plastic and a primer under the dark blue naval finish that is typical of the Bearcat. Prepare the glossy surface smoothly so that the decals come out well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
