An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian fighter biplane Fiat CR.42 Falco in 1:72 scale from Italeri. The box contains decals for several period variants and a color building guide. It is a smaller, readily built model that suits expanding a collection of Second World War aircraft.
The Fiat CR.42 Falco was the last major fighter biplane, following on from the successful CR.32. It was powered by an air-cooled Fiat A.74 radial engine and the machine stood out for excellent agility, even though the biplane layout was already obsolete at the start of the war. The Falco served with the Regia Aeronautica on many fronts from North Africa to the Balkans and was used as a night fighter as well. Despite the obsolete layout its agility earned it respect even from its opponents.
In the small 1:72 scale, liquid cement for plastic and careful sanding of the mold seams pay off. Cover the cockpit and glazing with a mask, apply a primer and spray thin coats with an airbrush. On a biplane, take care to tension the bracing wires between the wings and to suggest the rigging of the covering subtly. Prepare the small landing gear and exhaust parts in advance and glue them on at the end of the build.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
