A mask for the glazing of the carrier-borne Fieseler Fi-167 biplane for the AZ Model kit in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Fieseler Fi-167 was created at the end of the 1930s as a torpedo and reconnaissance machine for the planned aircraft carrier Graf Zeppelin. Trials showed exceptional behavior at low speeds; the machine could descend almost vertically and land on a very short run. The ship, however, was never completed, so it came to no more than fourteen aircraft built. They ended up with a test unit in the Netherlands, and Croatia bought some of them in 1944.
The abbreviation AZM after the name of the aircraft points to the model whose clear parts the design was based on. On a biplane with long crew glazing in particular, working by hand with tape stretches into tens of minutes, while die-cut shapes are placed in a moment and the frames come out the same width.
Wash the clear part and let it dry in the air, not near a radiator. Once the masks are applied, go over the edges with a soft eraser so that they seat perfectly. It works well to spray the cockpit shade from the inside first and then the covering coat of the outer camouflage. Take them off before the clear coat has cured completely.
Test pilots described how the biplane could be braked almost to a standstill against a strong wind and descend almost like an elevator. On the deck of a warship that would have been an invaluable ability, but the construction of the carrier stopped and the advantage was never used to the full.
The aircraft model is not included in the delivery; this is an aid for painting finished transparent parts.
