1:72 French House Corne

A French house for a diorama

A building element in 1:72 scale from the French house group, intended for dioramas and display cabinets. Houses of this type give a scene both scale and a story: it is immediately clear how tall the vehicle beside the wall is, where the street runs and what the figure is looking at. In European scenes it comes into its own from the interwar period to the present day, because brick-built village and small-town houses have changed little in appearance.

The 1:72 scale

In 1:72 scale a real meter comes out at just under fourteen millimeters. It is the most widespread scale for aircraft models and one of the main scales for military vehicles and figures, so the element fits in among models of the same size. Before you seat it in the scene, compare its height with a figure or a vehicle you already have on the base and lay out your lines of sight.

Preparation and painting

Wash and degrease the element before painting. Cut away excess material and marks left by production with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the surface; go carefully on the masonry so that the texture is preserved. Cyanoacrylate glue (super glue) works well both for joining and for seating it on the base. Masonry is best painted from a primer through a dark wash in the joints to a dry brush on the edges; pigments at the end add the dust and the damp at the foot of the wall.
