Markings that survive weathering are what 1:72 Fw 190 A-2/3/4/5 masks for crosses makes possible, a set covering the first production blocks of the aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
A marking laid down in sprayed paint will take later work with a brush, abrasive paper and pigments. That is especially useful on aircraft from the first years of service, which are often shown with a scuffed leading edge and worn panels. In a small scale there is also no worrying about getting the edge of a film to settle into the engraving.
The early Focke-Wulfs entered combat over western Europe at the end of 1941, and their radial engine, high rate of roll and good all-round canopy caused British squadrons serious trouble. It took almost a year before an equal opponent appeared on the other side. The A-2 through A-5 blocks therefore belong to the period when the type had the upper hand over the Channel. Modelers associate them with finishes in gray-blue shades and with units operating from French airfields.
Precisely because the cross lies in the paint and not on it, you can run chipping across it without worry or polish the edges with a metallic shade. Work from gentle hints toward stronger ones and keep looking at the model from a distance, so that the effect stays restrained. A photograph taken under hard light also helps, as it reveals unevenness the naked eye misses.
