This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the Grumman F8F-1 Bearcat carrier fighter in 1:72 scale by Hobby Boss. The model has finely engraved panel detail and a simple, straightforward build. The package contains plastic sprues with the parts, clear cockpit parts, a decal sheet and instructions; the armament includes bombs and rockets. The particular set of markings is determined by the edition of the package.
The Grumman F8F Bearcat was the last piston-engine carrier fighter from Grumman and entered service at the very end of the Second World War. It was designed as a light and exceptionally agile interceptor with a powerful radial engine that gave it superb climb and speed. It did not in fact see extensive combat during the war, but it served with the US Navy in the postwar years and ranks among the high points of piston-engine carrier fighter development.
Paint and install the cockpit and the seat before closing up the fuselage; mask the clear canopy before spraying. For the typical naval look, Glossy Sea Blue works well – apply it with an airbrush in thin coats, shade the panels subtly and pick out the edges lightly. The decals settle better on gloss varnish, and at the end everything is unified with a matte or semi-gloss coat. Liquid cement for plastic and a primer are recommended.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
