An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet KV-1 heavy tank in the version with applique armor (the KV-1B designation) in 1:72 scale. It is a short-run kit, that is, one made with a simpler mold technology: the parts have thicker gates and the occasional sink mark, and the fit needs more cleanup than with the large manufacturers. The reward is an interesting variant of the real subject that the major makers often pass over.
At the start of the Great Patriotic War the KV-1 was a feared Soviet heavy tank whose thick armor gave the German anti-tank defenses trouble. The version with applique armor increased the resistance of the hull and the turret at the cost of weight and mobility. The long running gear, the angular hull and the turret with a 76 mm gun are all characteristic.
Expect careful cleanup of the parts and a dry fit before gluing. Finish and paint the running gear and the tracks before you close up the hull. Soviet green comes out well after airbrushing, with edge highlighting with a dry brush and weathering with a wash and pigments for mud and dust effects. Liquid cement for plastic makes the small parts easier to work with.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
