The Il-40 was a two-seat jet attack aircraft designed as an armored machine following on from the concept of the famous Il-2. It flew in the mid-1950s and went through several changes to the airframe and the power plant, yet it never reached production and remained at the prototype stage. It represents an interesting and lesser known chapter of post-war Soviet aviation.
With a short-run mold, clean the flash off first and check with a dry fit that the fuselage and the wings sit together; after gluing with a thin cement, fill the joints and sand them back. Finish the cockpit and the landing gear before closing the fuselage up. Lay on a primer before painting; an airbrush gives even coverage. The decals settle better on a gloss coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
