An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet IS-2 (Iosif Stalin) heavy tank in 1:72 scale from the Russian brand Zvezda. Zvezda offers this range of small tanks as snap-fit, so the main parts can be joined without glue as well. The box contains the parts of the hull and the cast turret, the running gear, the tracks and a decal sheet with Soviet markings. It is a quick build of a massive breakthrough tank.
The IS-2 was a Soviet heavy tank of the final part of the Second World War, named after Joseph Stalin. Its main strength was the powerful 122mm gun intended to smash fortifications and to destroy heavy German tanks at long range. Steeply sloped cast armor and a massive turret gave it good protection. The IS-2 became the backbone of the Soviet guards heavy tank regiments and took part in breakthrough operations and in the final battles for the big cities in 1944 and 1945.
Assemble the running gear with its wheels and tracks first, then close up the hull and fit the turret. On snap-fit parts it pays to strengthen the joints with a drop of liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer and spray Soviet protective green with an airbrush; a tank with white stripes or slogans is typical as well. A dark wash, edge highlighting and dust pigments on the running gear will provide the weathering.
