Wheels for the J1N1-S Gekko, 1:72

An accessory set of replacement wheels for a model of the Japanese J1N1-S night fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not a model but a replacement part. Wheels are among the parts where a replacement shows most: they have a more faithful tread pattern, sharper hub detail and are usually cast with a flattened contact patch, so a standing model looks as though the weight of the aircraft were really pressing on the tire.

Building and painting tips

Separate the parts from the carriers with a fine saw and sand the cut face down. Wash and degrease them before painting. They are glued with super glue. When fitting them make sure the flattened part is at the bottom and parallel to the base, otherwise the model stands crooked. A tire is not black but rather a very dark gray, and once painted it comes alive with fine dust on the tread.
