An injection-molded plastic kit of the Japanese Kawasaki Ki-100-I fighter in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer RS Models. It is a short-run model; the box holds parts in gray plastic, clear glazing and decals for several color schemes. This version captures the early form with the classic taller fuselage spine.
The Ki-100 came about at the close of the war by joining the airframe of the Ki-61 Hien fighter with the Mitsubishi Ha-112-II radial engine. Replacing the original liquid-cooled inverted V12 brought a more dependable powerplant and outstanding agility. With the units of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force the aircraft proved itself as one of the best home-grown fighters of the end of the war, sent up among other things against American raids.
With a short-run mold, expect to clean up the parts and to test-fit the fuselage and the wings. Use thin modeling cement on the plastic and paint the cockpit before you close it up. For the typical bare metal and green look of Japanese machines an airbrush, a base color and then weathering with a wash and pigments work well. Fit the glazing only after painting.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
