The M983 HEMTT tractor with the M901 launching station of the Patriot air defense system in the PAC-2 version is a plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit combines the American heavy tractor M983 of the HEMTT family with the M901 semi-trailer launching station of the Patriot surface-to-air missile system in the PAC-2 version. The model thus forms a pair, the towing vehicle and the launcher, which makes it a rewarding basis for a whole display scene. The manufacturer of the kit is Trumpeter.
The HEMTT is a family of heavy army trucks with drive on all four axles, introduced by the American army in the 1980s. The M983 version is a tractor meant to tow semi-trailers and towed equipment, including elements of air defense. The M901 launching station carries the canisters with the guided missiles and, together with the radar and the control center, forms a firing battery. The PAC-2 version brought changes to the missile and the software aimed at destroying short-range ballistic missiles; in that role the system came to public attention during the Gulf War at the start of the 1990s.
Build the frame of the tractor with its axles first and only then the cab; leave the semi-trailer with the launching station as a separate building group, as it is easier to paint separately. Use liquid cement for polystyrene on the plastic and mask the cab glazing. Modern American vehicles are usually in a sand or three-tone scheme, and both suit an airbrush. Keep the wear restrained, as this is a technically maintained system, so dust on the chassis and light staining rather than heavy mud.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
