This injection-molded plastic kit in 1:72 scale from Special Hobby captures the early Me 163A version, the first development and pre-production machines from which the combat Me 163B Komet rocket fighter was later born. It is a short-run kit with finely engraved panel lines and a clear canopy; the edition offers decals for several marking options. Follow the actual contents of the box for the exact contents of the package and the number of parts.
The Me 163 was a unique tailless rocket fighter powered by a liquid-fuel rocket engine. The early machines of the A series served to verify the aerodynamics and the propulsion of the tailless concept and reached speeds extraordinary for their day; it was on an Me 163A in 1941 that a speed record exceeding 1000 km/h was broken. The design took off on a jettisonable dolly and landed on a retractable skid, which makes it one of the most unusual aircraft of the Second World War.
With short-run kits it pays to clean the flash off the parts before gluing, to dry fit them and to back the joints up if needed. Use liquid cement for plastic, which wicks into the seam. Lay down a primer before painting; for smooth surfaces and soft transitions an airbrush is ideal. Mask the clear canopy so that it stays transparent. Restore the fine engraved detail carefully after filling.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
