Paint masks for the tiger finish of the Czech MiG-21MFN from the Caslav air base in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The MiG-21 is a Soviet supersonic fighter with a triangular wing and a circular air intake in the nose, one of the most widespread machines of its time. The MFN version arose in the Czech Air Force by modifying MiG-21MF machines: they received equipment with which they could fly in an environment compatible with NATO. It was precisely on these aircraft from the Caslav base that the ceremonial tiger finish appeared, that is the conspicuous decoration worn at air meets and toward the end of a type's service.
These are paint masks for the tiger pattern in 1:72 scale. The small scale is exactly the case in which it pays to spray the pattern: the stripes and patches run across the whole fuselage and the wings, and decal film would make glossy edges over an area like that. The masks hold the shape of the pattern for you and the edges stay sharp. The scope of the sheet and the exact placement of the individual parts are described in the manufacturer's instructions; before you start, lay the masks on dry and compare them with the model, because the shape of the parts differs between kits.
First apply the base shade and let it cure properly, otherwise it will come away with the mask. Then lay the mask on and press the whole edge down so that paint cannot run underneath. Spray the second shade in several thin coats. Take the mask off while it is still fresh, and rather at an angle across the edge than perpendicular to the surface.
The set is for builders who want a conspicuous finish sprayed and not assembled from decals. The package contains the masks; the paints, the glue and the kit itself are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
