This kit from the Czech brand Smer brings one of the most widespread jet fighters in history in 1:72 scale. The designation in the name refers to two forms of the same machine: the Soviet MiG-15bis version and the Polish license-built Lim-2 variant. The model is injection-molded in polystyrene and is supplied unassembled and unpainted. It is among the simplest kits of the type, which makes it rewarding material for practicing building and painting techniques. The MiG-15 was a single-engined jet fighter with a markedly swept wing, a direct air intake in the nose and a high-set tail surface. The bis version received a more powerful powerplant and a series of detail changes that improved performance across the whole flight envelope. The type was produced in enormous numbers and was also built under license outside the Soviet Union. Poland built it under the Lim designation, with the Lim-2 corresponding to the bis version. In Czechoslovakia a license series of its own was built in parallel, so this type is among the machines that modelers in central Europe had, so to speak, before their eyes.
On simple tools of this type, allow for more pronounced mold seams and for the parts having to be dry-fitted and their mating surfaces leveled. Spray the inside of the nose intake duct and of the exhaust a dark flat shade before the fuselage is closed. The natural metal finish typical of these machines calls for a perfectly smooth and glossy base; any scratch left by sanding is exaggerated in metal paint. Make the differences between the panel shades by spraying various metal tones through masking tape. Lay the decals on gloss varnish and seal them once dry with a matte or satin varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
