The exhaust nozzle of the Mirage 2000 aircraft in 1:72 scale replaces the shallow part from the mold. Intended for kits from the Italeri and Revell brands.

A small but rewarding upgrade: a separately cast tail section of the exhaust of the French Mirage 2000 fighter in 1:72 scale. The accessory is cut for the Italeri and Revell kits, which matters, because an identical nozzle intended for a kit from another brand runs alongside it and without this information you could not tell the two items apart.
The Mirage 2000 is a single-engine fighter with a delta wing that French industry brought into service in the 1980s and that then found customers in a number of other countries. It is powered by a single jet engine with an afterburner, and its outlet is closed by a ring of moving petals. These open and close according to the flight regime, so the shape of the nozzle changes markedly; the casting captures one particular position and gives it the depth that a split plastic part can hardly offer.
In 1:72 scale the casting is small, so have tweezers ready and work over a surface with a raised edge. After cutting off the casting block, level the face on fine abrasive paper. Painting goes faster if you spray the part before gluing it on and set it into the fuselage only at the end. Inside, a dark graphite tone works well, and on the petals from outside, burnished metal with a faint hint of heat tinting.
